DAMAGE AT BRIGHTWATER. By Telegraph-Press Association. Nelson, March 21. Tho floor! damage at Brightivater is far more serious at first reported. The Government's protection wall was carried away, and large areas inundated. Some orchards were also swept away. Railway traffic will be stopped for a week at least, owing to big washouts on the line. The immediate reinstatement of the protection wall' is essential for the safety of Brightivater. ANXIETY AT GORE. j Core, March 21. Tho rivers are rising, and settlers are moving stock, fearing a flood. There was a general average of 3in. of rain throughout the district in four days. ' '■ The Mataura River readied its maximum height about noon to-day. _ The flood water has not yet got into the town to any extent, and no damage has been done. The river requires to rise from six inches to a foot higher before there would be a repetition of last year's flood.
