COMPLAINT AGAINST THE [ RAILWAYS. : By Telegraph—Press Association.' ' Christchurch, March 21. A deputation from the Canterbury Chamber of, Commerce waited on Mr. .'■E'/H.'.Hiley, General Manager of Railways, to lay before' him complaints concerning tho administration of the railways in Canterbury. It was contended that the conditions were most harrassing, and instead of being a blessing tho railways were a curse. What was wanted was efficient, intelligent, and sympathetic administration, with competent men at Lyttelton ana . Christchureh. Tho Department's idea of efficiency was to spread a job over, two days. The chamber's idea was to get things done promptly. Instead of assisting, the railways wore strangling the country's commerce.
In reply, Mr. Hiley promised to depute Mr. Buxton, Chief Traffic Manager,'to make investigations into the working of tho Lyttolton-Cliristchurch line, and also to depute another senior official to so into details with Christchurch business men. \
