MEETING OF CREDITORS

... ESTATE W. WALSH. Tho Official Assignee ,(Mr. S. Taualey) presided ovor a meeting of creditors' in the estate of Walter Walsh, machinist, Petone, a bankrupt, hold yesterday. In his sworn statement tho bankrupt said that.be' was a married man , with five children, all of whom were of ago and away from home, except a daughter. He received no assistance from his children.. About'tiro years ago he was in a fairly good position, with £150 in.capital and'three racehorses. He then had a run of bad luck * through' tho horses breaking down. He ran horses at a loss up to the time of purchasing Fashion Plate for £45. This purchase turned out badly, as the mare nevor won a race. He had to borrow £30 from one Balkind on the maro to keep her running, and this loan, with interest, amounted to £46 10s. The horse was seized under a bill of sale. This was practically his only asset : beyond a light trap, and racing gear worth about £15. All tho debts incurred were in connection with the racing of the marc. He had paid all hie household expenses out of his wages of £3 17a. per week. The liabilities, according to the statement of accounts, are unsecured creditors, £162; secured oreditor (L. W. Balkind), £46 10s.; estimated value, £45. Assets: Trap and gear,, £15. Tho principal unsecured creditors are: F. Warring, Onga Onga, £50; F. H. Jopson, Wellington, £27 10s.; C. W. Wright, Petone, £17 155.; G. Frew, Wellington, £23 13s. 4d.; City Motor Works, £13 155., and several smaller amounts.. Examined by the assignee the bankrupt said that when Fashion Plate was in form he had refused £250 for her. He paid £45 for her. Balkind seized the mare from the trainer, who was paid his training fees of £17 odd.

ESTATE OF DAVID 0. THOMAS. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estuto of David Owen Thomas should have been held yesterday, but there were no creditors present, and the meeting was adjourned sino dip. Bankrupt, who is now at Trentham, was in business in a small way as a caterer at Wairoa,' Hawke's Bay, and most of tho creditors are iu Napier and Wairoa. The liabilities were returned as £193 os. Id., and the assets at £137 9s. IOJd.
