AT TAUHIiRENIKAU RACECOURSE EXCITINC MILITARY EVENTS, Tauherenikiiu racecourse presented', an animated "appearance yesterday: wlien Uio jt'eatlierston Camp military buons ware held. The weather, was. hue, with a heavy wind during the. morning. Later oil the wind ceased, and after an hour the calm light rain came up from (.lie south. The grandstands were packed with men in. khaki, and the lawns were thronged,, a good sprinkling of civilians being; noticeable. Among these, were Sir Joseph Ward and parly. The Camp. Commandant, Colonel A;. P. Adams, C.M.G., the Camp Adjutant, Major Neville Newcombe, and Ijieut.-ColoneL Giaham Robertson, P.M.O. Other headquarters and camp officers present included Colonel C. It. Macdonald,, 1.G.5.; Liout.-Colonel Nealve, and Major Ostler and Captain Brocks, M.C. The following officers and n.c.o.'a acted as judges:—Artillery: Captain Bradley, Captain Wilson, D.C.M., and Lieut , . ■ Doughty; Major Button, D.S.O. j Major Wjmaii, D.5.0.; Infantry: Colonel C. K. Macdonald, I.G.S. Open events, S.S.M. Olmpman, S.S.M. Hogan, starter S.S.M. Levy (W. 0.).The committee were Rβ follow-:—Mount-ed Hifles: Lieut. Lockyer, tiieut. Scott; Artillery: Lieut. Bull; Infantry.-. Lieut. Boles, Limit. M'Lean; treasurer, Lieut. Scott; secretary, Lieut. Curtis. Refreshments were provided, by a Red Cross committee of ladies. There were* 4.4 military and athletic events on the programme, for each of which there were numerous entries. The horseback events and the artillery alarm caused some excitement, the saddling-up competition being especially stirring. Each of the horsemen had to fold his bjanket, run ami pick up his saddle, and run further to his horse, and Eaddlo up, afterwards riding a short distance. The wrestling on Imrebaci hor.ies was also a thrilling item. The. other military events were watched with interest by soldiers and. civilians:
