RELIEF MEASURES
• STATEMENT BY JIB. MASSEY. The Hon. G. W. Ru.isell has received the following telegram from tho I rime Minister iu reply to the telegram he sent as the outcome of the deputation which waited upon him at Ohiikune. "Thanks for your telegram, which did not'reach. me here (Auckland) until my arrival this forenoon. The damage- and losses at Ohakune are very serious, and relief measures are well in hand. 1 am awaiting reply from the Minister of Finance as to the financial assistance to tho afflicted settlors by his Department in the way of free carriage of goods and travel. The Hon. Mr. Guthrie is now on the spot, and he will represent the Government. Cooperation of tho local bodies has been requested." Mr. Russell said that he had not received any information as to the necessity for medical or ambulance help. His advico was that arrangements had been made to provide for those requirements.
