A DOZEN SAWMILLS GONE FIRES NOW UNDER CONTROL The following message was received by the Secretary of the P. and T. Department from the postmaster at Oh?.-' kune Junction, transmitted through Taihape:—» Latest news baysi that part'of town and one hundred houses burnt in the Raetihi district. Seventeen houses and seven sawmills at Horopito; three sawmills and some houses at Rangataua, and a few -' houses and two or three sawmills in the Ohakuno district have also been destroyed. All tho post offices are safe, and, so far, no; assistance or material is needed. Rain commenced this afternoon, • and fires now well under control.
