RED TRIANGLE APPEAL' ( A REMARKABLE RESULT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT TO-DAY. The closing scene of the lied Triangle campaign which has been waged in Wellington will take place to-day, under the clock at the Bank of New Zealand corner at a quarter to 2 o'clock. A platform has been erected there, and from that elevation Mr. 0. A. Wallace, acting as auctioneer, will sell the famous Rod Triangle war tank, without reserve, to tlio highest bidder. Immediately before doing so, however, he will' sell for ready cash a number of unique and handsome decorations, which will entitle the wearer to be styled in perpetuity a "knight of the company of H.ll. landsiiip Rosie." Having disposed of these and of the tank, the auctioneer will sell the stuckup, Triangular clock, with all its works and faults, if any, and in full going order, figuratively speaking. A nod will be as good, as a wink to this auctioneer.
Financc Minister to speak. When the auctioneer has finished, Mr. Harold Beauehamp, chairman of the Citizens' Committee, / will. mount the rostrum, accompanicd by Sir Joseph Ward. Mr. Beauthamp will announce the final result of the "Wellington campaign, and tlio figures up to date for the other parts of the Dominion concerned will be displayed on a banner which twilf be unfurled. Sir Joseph Ward will then open the War Loan campaign in a brief speech to the assembled citizens. In the event of the weather proving- wet, ceremonies will be carried out in the Chamber of Commerce, in the National Mutual Buildings. The bank and the adjacent premises will bo decorated, and between, half-piist one and a quarter to two the tank will make its final perambulation through the streets under the sign of the Red Triangle.
Total Mounting Up. During yesterday a number of further contributions continued _ to pour steadily into the committee's city office, and there is considered to be every prospect of the high aim of the Wellington oitizens being realised. The present total already exceeds £24,211. Results from provincial districts and from the South Island are coming in rapidly, and the chairman of the committee will have a phjnsing and remarkable statement to lipiko when he unfurls thi banner to-day.
