The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. P. Massey) leaves this morning, accompanied by the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, to attend the Fcilding show. Mr. Massey'a present intention is to proceed to Auckland from Feilding.
Tho Hon. Sir William Fraser returned from the North Auckland district yesterday.
Tho Hon. T. M. Wilford left last night for Invercargill, where he intonds to inspect tho reformatory prison, and to attend to some other Departmental business. He hopes to bo back in Wellington on Sunday morning-
News has just beon received that a third distinction has been conferred upon Captain Erie Corkill, M.C., Chevalier of the Order of Leopold. A cablegram which came to hand yesterday states that ho ha»' been given the Belgian Croix do Guerre.

Judge Gilf odder, of the Native Land Court, Clisborne, has received'intimation by cablegram from England that hn passed the degree of bachelor of nits at th" November-examinations of tho New Zealand University.
A well-known resident of Masterton, Mr. William Wilkes, died on Sunday after a protracted illness. The lato Mr. Wilkes, who was 44 years of ago, was a prominent member of the local Bowling Club and of tho Orange Lodge.
At. the latest report Lieutenant Keith Little, of Wellington, who was attached to tho Wellington Battalion of one of Not: Zealand's brigades, was confined to an English hospital, suffering rather badly from trench feet. The feet were being massaged electrically dp-ily, and he hoped that in timo the deadened limbs would yield to treatment.
Mr. John O'Brien, senior messenger, Government Lifo Insurance Department, was tho recipient of ft case of pipes and a silver matchbox, suitably inscribed, from the messengers, nightwatchmen, and charwomen of tho Government Lifo Department, upon his leaving after some 18J years' sorvico to take up his duties as senior messenger at the Government Buildings. Mr. H. Mills, in making the presentation,' spoko of the good feeling that at all times existed botiveen Mr. O'Brien and tlioso associated with him, and wished Mr. O'Brien every success in hife new appointment.
Mr. .Maurice Ralph, advance manager for the Ada lleeve Company, has arrived from Australia. The company is to commence a tour of. New Zealand in Christchurch at Easter.
Mr. E. Mnchmore, of the Gisborne branch of tho N.Z. ■' Insurance Co., lias received notice of his transfer to New Plymouth. Socond L'cutenant N. Parker, Headquarters Staff,. lists been appointed (temporarily) Assistant Provost Marshal at FeAtherston Camp.
Writing from the Royal Naval Base, Ardossan, Scotland, 011 January 15, Sub-Lieutenant Georgo Harden, formerly of Eketahunp, states he has been gazetted a lieutenant. Ho had been laid up for a few weeks with a crushed foot;sustained in p. chase after "Fntn. ,
Mr. E. J..Allen, manager of the Nelson branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will retire from the service of the hank in about three months' time, after a connection with it that has extended over forty-fonr years. He joined the bank at Greymouth in 1873, and during his service in connection therewith, lias been stationed at twelve of its branches. He was appointed manager at Ross in 1 1878, and has occupied similar positions at Opunahe, Feilding, New Plymouth, and Nelson. Mr. Allen will be succeeded at Nelson by Mr. A. L. T. Jones, of Ashburton.
The Rev. Arthur James Stuart Seaton, Anglican minister at Spring Creek, near Blenheim, who was thrown from his horse on Friday evening, and was removed to the Wairau Hospital, died in that institution on Saturday. The deceased gentleman was 61 years of age. He was the second son of the late Rev. A. Seaton, Rector of Colton, Staffordshire, and was a relative of the late Mr. E. W. Seatori, of Wellington.
The funeral of the late Mr. David Sullivan, licensee of the Pier Hotel, took place' yesterday, and was very largely attended. Among those who were present were licensed victuallers and members of sporting bodies in various parts of "Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay provincial districts. Solemn Requiem Mass was qelehrated in St. Mary of the Angels' Church, Boulcott Street, by the Rev. Father Mahony, and a service at the graveside at Karon was performed by the Rev. Father Hoare, assisted by the .Rev. Fathers Schaefer and O'Connor.
