DAIRY PRODUCE
BIG ACCUMULATIONS FOR SHIPMENT.. ;A statement on the shipment of dairy produce was made by the l'rime Minister yesterday. "The'season has been a good one and tho supply of dairy produce has kept •ui> Wonderfully well," said Mr. Massey. "Tho Government are, however, alivo 16 the necessity of providing for winter requirements arid.'a sufficient quantity will bo kept in New Zealand for that purpose;' tho surplus going to the Imperial Government. Tho butter intended for local supply must be kept separate from the Imperial butter as tho British Food Controller advances 90 per cent, of the value of the lacier to tho tho balance being paid on shipment.' As it has turned out it was very fortunate for all concerned that the present arrangement with the Food Controller was. made, otherwise owing to the shortage of shipping butter would have been-in the same position as tallow and flax and other commodities not purchased by the Imperial Government, and which are stored up in-very lareo quantitiosin the different centrcsr of the Dominion. For this season, up to the end of February, 16,500 tons of butter had been produced, which, at the prices arranged for, would amount to over 2i ;r.illions sterling."
