COMPENSATION COURT

Nelson,- March 15. The Compensation Court, composed of Mr. Justice Chapman and two assessors, concluded to-day the hearing of the case Richardson v. the City Council, which aroused much local interest. . The corporation two years ago acquired under the Public Works Act pieces of land on the banks of the Maitai River for bathing and picnicking purposes, being portion of the Maitai Estate, for which the owners now claimed compensation. Claimants assessed the value of the land compensation under several headings at a total of £686S 16s. Pd. After a lengthy hearing the Court awarded claimants £995. Mr. M. Myers, with him Mr. J. P Hayes, appeared for the claimants, and Sir John Findlay, K.C., with him Mr. E. B. Moore, for the City Council.
