Australian crcwa are to man the Commonwealth vessels now building in America. It was stated'recently that.the Federal Government had agreed to the request of the executive of the Seamen's Union that members of the Australian Seamen's Union should be employed on the vessels. The secretary-'• of-the Merchant Service Guild said recently that his request to the l'rirno Minister that Australian captaiaT and. officers 'should h»" appointed to : Commonwealth, ships had been assented to, and whenever suitable men, were obtainable in Australia they would be. given preference. .
