; <t~ At the. ordinary meeting of the Hutt County Council held yesterday there were present: Councillors W. Galloway (in the chair), W. J. Howell, W. Welch, G. Cooper, and T. P. Cavanagh. The Railway Department wrote in respect ijo gravel stored at the Paraparaumu railway station, asking that it be removed immediately. It was .decided to comply with the request. ■ Another letter was received from tho same Department with reference to the class of road and footpath from the railway station to the main road at Heretaunga. ,It was resolved to ask the Inspector of Works to report on the matter. A letter was received from the Minister of Justice (the Hon. T. M.'Wilford) asking-for fclio council's support for the establishment of a School of Horticulture in tho Hutt A'a.'ley. 'Ilia council decided to give the piopssal its cordial support. The Manawatu County Council asked for the support of a resolution passed by that body advocating tho tunning of special race trains in order to relieve the heavy motor traffic oil the main roads leading to the racecourses. The council agreed to support the resolution. A discussion took place on the question of empowering local bodies to tax motor traffic', and it was resolvell to support the Makara County Council in its proposal that a deputation should wait upon the Minister of Intenia 1 Alfairs (the Hon. G. W. Enssell) after the next county conference, urging him to have the necessary legislation passed. , . It was decided to support the Auckland City Council's resolution advocating the retention of Samoa by Pntain after the war. The report ol the Inspector.of W orlcs, which dealt with' various works m progress and completed, was adopted, anu accounts to £752 3s. 6d. were passed for payment.
