ELECTRICAL WORKERS

NEW AWARD SOUGHT. A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held yesterday to consider the demands by ilio Wellington Union of Workers for a now. award. Mr. Newton (Commissioner) presided.

Tho electrical workers claim wageß as follow: —Journeymen electricians, 2s. per hour; work at boilers, batteries, dirty work, repairs, etc., Is. Gd. per day extra; work .in freezing chambers, 2s.,per day extra; journeymen in charge of work, Is.- to 2s. per day oxtra. A forty-four hours weok is sought. . Overtime is asked for at the rato of time-and-a-half till 10 p.m., aud'doublb timo thereafter.

Tho linesmen claim the following:— Wages—Linesmen and emergency linesmen, 2s. per hour; linesmen's assistauts, Is. 6d. per hour. Holidays— Doublo time- for work done on Sundays. After three months' service full pay for New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Sovereign's Birthday, Anniversary Day, Boxing Day, an 3 Christmas Day. Fourteen working, days' holiday on full pay shall bo givon for each year of service. Hours—Overtimo and preference clauses aro on the'same lines as the electrical workers' dispute. The council sat all day, and at the conclusion.it was reported that some progress toward agreement had been made, but that the business had not been completed and that the council would continue its sitting to-morrow.
