5 •OVER £1,000,000 ANNUALLY, : The pensions granted in New Zealand now total over £1,000,000 annually. The following table -'shows the number of each class of pension now in force in the Dominion, together with the total annual value of the same, and the amounts paid in each class in January/1918:— ■ Class No. in Annual Paid of pension. The war pensions granted from April 17 to January 1918, are as under :— Soldiers, 108; wives and widows (including 631 children), 471; other dependants, 1304; total, 2514; annual value, £95,056. The soldiers' allowances total 4349; wives and widows (with 674 children), 476; other dependants, 82; total, 5581; annual' value, £350,255. Pensions and allowances together thus number 8095" in all, with a total annual value of £445,311.
