After a protracted trip of seven days and four hours the Rosamond arrived at, Wellington at 5.40 p.m. on Saturday direct from Auckland. The delay was sololy caused by the last storm. The vessel fully-laden with cargo for Wellington lett Auckland at 1.40 p.m. on Saturday week, and ou Sunday night when passing White Island eho flrßt encountered the- gale, which increased so heavily that at 4 p.m. on Monday tho Rosamond, which was shipping heavy sens foro and aft, was forced 1o seek shelter off. Capo Runaway. The gale was at that time blowing from tho lonth-eant with thick rum. and it was not until Thursday at 8 a.m. that the weather moderated to considerable seas, and tho vessel proceeded. Commonwealth. The prowar rates were 50a. per ton. The cause of tho rise is stated to bo duo to tho fact that tho Japanese Government havo commandeered a considerable amount of tonnage. The new rates apply to caTgo steamers only, and it is mentioned that freights i\v the regular mail boats will 'remain unchanged under the terms of the mail contract. The Blackball Coal Company advise that the Ngakuta has been diverted to Tokoinarm Bay, and that in her stead the Ngatoro will arrive at Wellington on Inursdav, fully laden. . . Another trip to the Sounds to load sheep for Lyttelton will bo made to-day by the Wootton, which arrived here yesterday morning from Lyttelton. , Messrs. G. T. Hull and Co. advise that the John will arrive on Thursday from Oainaro, and after discharging -will load for Wanganui. Tho vessel is to call at Wellington on her return to the south.
