4 STATEMENT BY SIR JOSEPH "WARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchuroh, March 10. Sii Joseph Whrd made the following official statement to-day regarding the business done by the Post Office Savings Bank: —The Post Office Savings Bank figures for the Dominion during the mouth of January disclose the fact that the business done by that important institution is still steadily increasing. Not dnlv did deposits (£1,375,933), and withdrawals (£1,007,255) exceed the corresponding figures for the same mouth in 1917, but the excess of deposits over withdrawals reached the large amount of £368,678 as compared with £352,118 in January. 1917. These figures may he regarded as eminently satisfactory, showing that there is a considerable accumulation of small sumß of money which will bo available for investment by depositors in the coming issue of the War Loan.
