INCREASE IN THE PRICE OP ESSENTIAL FOODS. In Lis abstract of statistics issued yesterday, the Government Statistician (Mr., Malcolm Fraser) continues his interesting cost-of-living*serial by quoting''- the price' of a specified quantity of definitely classified foods as in July, 1914, as compared with January, 1918'. The figures, which are based on the average price in the four centres, are illuminating. They are as follow:—
