TOKIO EXCITED OVER "SIBERIAN DEBACLE" RESENTMENT IN RUSSIA LORD JELLICOE'S RETIREMENT DEBATE IN THE HOUSE . OF COMMONS
No operations of major.importance are reported in the war'dispatches to-day. There'has"been an interesting but, at times, acrimonious debate in the House of Commons over the retirement of Lord Jellicoe, and Sir Edward Carson, Sir Eric Geddes's predecessor at the Admiralty, has >p.oken his mind- freely on the subject The question of Japanese intervention, in Siberia haa not yet been settled, and considerable feeling is stated to have been excited by what is described in a message from Toltio as "the Siberian 'debacle.'' The case for Russia in the matter of-Japanese, intervention is stated by Mr. Harold Willianis, the "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent in Petrograd, who declares that the idea of Japaneso action in the Far East is deeply resented by the Russians. According to Mr. Williams, some suspicion of the Allies' .motives' has been engendered in Russia by the fact- that the questionV of intervention by Japan had been discussed in the absence of Russia; that the fact that Russia.was not invited formally to express.her views has lent.colour to the suspicion that the Allies intend to exploit Russia at the Peace. Conference. The absence of a properly recognised Government in Russia, Mr.. 'Williams admits, is a difficulty, but he does not suggest how this difficulty can be got over. .'
