Russell (Minister of Public Health) leaves for Auckland by. the Main Trunk express to-day for the purpose of visiting the hospitals in the. North Auckland district, and expects to. bo back in Wellington about Wednesday week. .
Word has been received frorii; Captain Hine, M.P., to the effect that he will be leaving England shortly in charge of 'a draft, and will have a mouth's leave in New Zealand, states a Taranaki exchange. •
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Green, of Se:itoun, have been informed by the Defence Department that.their youngest son, Corporal L. \V. Green, 3/675, will be'returning shortly. He was severely gassed on October 12 last. • He i'.'ent away with the Fifth Reinforcement.
Mr. Selby P. Wood, managing dircctqr of the Australian Provincial Assurance Association, Ltd., is touring New Zealand in connection with the association's New Zealand business, the association having been recently registered in the Dominion. Sir. F. A. Murrell, branch manager, is accompanying Mr. Wood.

. Mr. Neil M'Lean has been, idvised that his son, Gordon M'Lean, was severely gassed on February 3, and has been removed to England.
Mr. A. E. Whyte, secretary.of thb Wellington Racing Club, is leaving on a holiday tiip to Sydney.
Mr. Ingle Bonner, who for the past two years and a half lias been on the staff of the Bank of New' Zealand .at Methven, was transferred' to Westport early this week. On the eve of his departure he was presented by the staff with a shaving outfit.
"Mr. T. H. Haskell, who died : on Wednesday at Duhedin in his U9th year, was born in Tasmania, aiid for many years ago in the service of the Imperial Government, when a Crown colony. When Tasmania received autonomous government about fifty years ago, Mr. Haskell retired to New Zealand on a pension from- the Imperial Government, and lias resided in Dunedin ever since:' ~- ■
' The death is recorded of; Mr. John Muginio Chambers, head of'the wellknown'New Zealand engineering firm of John Chambers and Son, Ltd., which has warehouses in all of the main contres of New Zealand> The late Mr. Chambers was 55 years, of age, being the son of the late Mr. John Chambers, of Auckland.. He was horn at Newark-on-Trcnt, Nottingham, England, and came to New Zealand with his parents when an infant. Mr. Chambers was educated at the Church of England Grammar School, Parnell, afterwards going/ to England, where he went through a course of engineering with Tangyes Ltd., of Birmingham. Upon returning to New Zealand,, Mr. Chambers joined his father, in business in Fort Street, Auckland. Later he returned to England to complete his en? gineering studies. He married the daughter of Sir Richard Tangye while at Home, and has two sons, who are ai colloge in New South Wales, and one daughter. Mr. Chambers had been in bad health for a minVbcr of years, and latterly spent the winters in Now South Wales and the summer at his residence at Khandallah. In. bis younger days he was an athlete, and the backbone of the first- bicycle club in Auckland, when the tig. frontwheel machines were the iashion. Mrs. Howard Keep, of Birmingham, is a sister of deceased. Mr. Chambers was an enthusiastic Mason, and one 0" the'founders of Lodge Te Awamutu, Auckland. He was also a member of the Northern Club and the .Auckland Club, and being a' genial, warm-hearted gentleman was highly respected by all who knew him.
The Rev. S. Robertson, who was inducted to the charge of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wellington Terrace, on Tuesday last, will preach at both services at St. Andrew's on Sunday.
Mr.. George Chirnside, of Werrihee Park, Victoria, who Has rfsitccl ~ew Zealand pretty reguTar?v for many years, is once agnin in the Dominion. At the latest advice he was trout-fish-ing at Lake Taupo.
. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Legh, of Sydney, . have left for Australia after making a most comprehensive tour, of the scenic resorts of the Dominion, from Whaiigarei in the north to the Milford-To Anau walk in the south. Sir.. Legh' said that he had enjoyed overy day of his visit to New Zealand, and hoped to return again very shortly. ,
The Rev. W. H. Roberts, who is at present in charge of the parochial district of Mosgiel and Green Island, has been appointed vicar of the parish "of Bluff in succession to the Rev. Canon Swinburn, who retired recently, owing to ill-health.. The Rev. H. S. Bishop, of Kurow, ,who takes charge of the parochial district of Port Chalmers, is expected to commence his ministry there during the first week in April.
At the Chief Post Office, Dunedin, on Tuesday evening, Mr. A. Miscall, of the mail branch, who hns been promoted to the G.P.0., Wellington, was the recipient of a travelling case from Jus fellow-workers. Mr. Smallbourg, assist-ant-postmaster, made the presentation, and congratulated Mr. Miscall on his promotion, and wished him every success in his new sphere. Mr. Miscall is well known in football circles, being for many years prominently associated with the Southern Football Club. He was also a member of the Otago Rugby Football Union.
Mr. John Farrell, of the J. .0- Williamson, Ltd.. managerial staff, has left on a brief visit to Sydney. He will return as manager of the Royal Comic Opera Company. ,
