MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided ■it tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the police cases. Christopher Smith pleaded guilty to being found drunk, and was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisomneut, for refusing to quit the Clarendon Hotel when requested to do so by tho landlord, . Sniith '.was convicted and fined 405., with the alternative of fourteen days' imprisonment, the terms to be concurrent. John James Wyatt was found drunk, and when a constable arrested him, he damaged the policeman's helmet. For drunkenness he was fined 10s., in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, and for damaging the helmet he was lined 405., and ordered to pay the damage, in the alternative to serve seven days in gaol. A first-offender for insobriety was fined 205., in default Beven days' imprisonment. A remand for a week was granted iii the_ case of William M'Donald, a lad eighteen years of age, from Fiji, who was charged with the theft at Wellington on January 4, of £1 2s. 7-id., tho property of Thomas Parker. . CIVIL CASES. Mr. W. G. Hiddell, S.M.. dealt with the civil cases, and gave- judgment for plaintiff by default as follows:—Commercial Agency, Ltd., and J. E. Croft v. William Lowe, £4 Bs., costs 10s.; Oscar Jacobsen v. E. Ryan, £1 11s. Ed., costs Gs.; Commercial Agency, Ltd.,' and Cycle and Motor Supplies, Ltd., v. George de Manser, £32 7s. ocl., costs £2 145.; Magnus, Sanderson, and Co.', Ltd., v. Taranaki Mofors, Ltd., £1 jis., costs only; Stewart Timber Co. v. Joseph Wilson, £83 4s. Id., costs £1 10s.; E. W. Mills and Co., Ltd., v. J. W. U'avies, 6d., costs 18s.: Vcilch and Allan v. T. Austin, £3 os. 2d., costs 10s. ■ CLAIM FOR WORK. E. .J. Eoothead, for whom Mr. E. P; Jiunny appeared, proceeded against James M'Gree to recover £3 15h. od., for plumbing work, and there was a counter-claim, for £2 lor alleged faulty work, owing to a leak hnmig dcvelopi.d. On tire claim, judgment v.-as given for plaintiff for the full amount with lls..costs, and the defendant.was allowed, his counter claim of £2. but without costs. ;
