-NOTES AND COMMENTS
..[■BY GLEHCOE.]
Entries for the'Feilding Jockey Olub's Easter Meeting close on Saturday next. Handicaps for the two big events, at the 0.J.0. Easter Meeting are due to-day. Weights for tho Rangitlkei Meeting aro due on Monday, and acceptances close on the following Friday... ' Tho well-known hurdle horseman, 11. M'Sweeney, has been ordered to join the 01 camp at Featherßton. A big batoh of yeai'lings from the Bushy Park and Brunswick Studs, which are intended for the Randwick sales, are to be shipped to Australia Shortly. The West Coast horses which raced at the Nelson Meeting had to make- tlio journey to the meeting by road, owing to there being no. boats running from the Coast. The distance walked was 100 miles.
The New Plymouth/trainer, R. Johnson, has made tho trip to Napier with Henry Clay and Rawakore. Both geldings will be ridden by the apprentice son of the trainer named, and in the case of Ifawakore a 51b. allowance will bo claimed.
The prlco paid for the yoarling brother to Sasanof is reported to be 1000 guineas. A well-known Hawke's Bay owner was also after the colt, but his oflcr waa received too late.
The King Rufuß-Commoroe yearling offered for sale at Wanganui did not reach the reserve, and has been sent to her owner's place at Silverstream. She will probably join J. Lowe's team later on.
A pleasing feature of the acceptances for tho Napier Meeting, which openß tomorrow, is tho good class whioh is engaged in the two principal events. Tho sprint event in particular has drawn an exoollent field, the list including Croesus, Sweet Corn, Impediment. Lingerie, Hyttus, and Parisian Diamond.
The entries received for the Trial Plato and Maiden Scurry at tho Napier Meeting aro very, weak numerically, and it looks as if ownerß overlooked the closing of entries for these evente, -as other clubs have bad similar events well patronised. Impediment, Tressida, and Otara, who have been accoptod for in the Flying Handicap at Napier on Friday, have also been paid up for in other events. In the case of the A r st-namod pair, they are regarded as suro runners in tho Oup, and Otara will probably contest the Welter Handicap.
On Friday J. Thorpe, the Ellerslie trainer,' found it necessary to shoot Easkayne, who was suffering from tetanus, and his case pronounced hopeless. Haskayne, who won a number of good handicap raocß at Ellerslie and elsewhere, was purohasod at the late Hon. J. D. Ormohd's saio with a view to. being made a hurdler of. He. had been tried, and had proved a good jumper, and'was doing nioely, and it waa intended to raco him at an early date over tho battens as a preliminary to wlntor racing.
After a long run of failures, tho wellbred Exclusive managed to get on the winning list yesterday, when she annexed the. Trial Plate at the Nelson Meeting. Tho ohestnut mare started favourite. Rose Pink, who annoxed tho Nelson Oup yesterday, has paid her way well sinoe the Ashhurst Meeting, whero she Scored in the principal event. The Kilbronoy mare has dono a lot of racing this season, but she is standing up to it well.
