SOLDIER IMPRISONED FOR FORGERY
(Rec. March 6, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, March 6. Joseph Manlilfe, alias Joseph Henry Turner, a returned soldier, pleaded guilty to forging a document whereby lie obtained military paymeuts, and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The Judge added: "The New Zealand authorities desire that you should he returned to England, whence you deserted, and as soon as tho military authorities are ready to send I will make a recommendation that you be handed over." —Press Assn. [A previous message stated that tho accused informed tho police that ho enlisted in Auckland in December, 191*1, wont to Egyptj and thence was invalided to England. Ha mot an Australian soldier named Maxwell. The latter had been detailed to return to Australia, but did not desire to return, and gave Manliffe his boat ticket and papers, with permission to use the papers and sign liis pay-shoet.
