SWIMMING CARNIVAL
IN AID OF RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB
A SUCCESSFUL MEETING
The Wellington Amateur Swimming Chin's carnival, in aid of the ltewrii«l Soldiers' Club, was held on Saturday .afternoon. The attendance was excellent, and as the day was warm the swimmers revelled iii the water. The Gas Company's orchestra enlivened tho proceedings with good music. The officials all worked hard, and the events were put through iu good time. The results were as follow:—
50 yards boys' handicap—First heat: 1. W. Logan, Ssec., 1; S. 6. Wyatt, lOsec, 2; J. Burke, 7sec, 3. Time, 3G 1-osec. Second heat: M'Gil!, scr., 1; X. Gibson, 3sec, 2; J. Purcell, Isec., S. Time, 314-osec. Third heat: Couzcns, sseo., 1; Barry. 4sec., 2. The time was not taken. Final: M'Gill, scr., 1; Cou7ens, ssec, 2; Gibson, Ssec, 3. Time, 86seo. Returned soldiers' handicap—G. B. •Maiin, lOsec, 1; W. G. Morpeth, Ssec, 2; J. Foster, 6sec, 3. Time, 35 2-ssec. Coltman Cup, schools relay championship, 200 yards; teams of four girls—Clyde Quay . and Mount Cookgirls were the only competitors, Mie Clyde Quay girls winning easily. Time, 3min, loscc. The Terrace School were the previous holders of the cup. Swimmers' Memorial Cup, inter-club, cup presented by Mr. W. Homig; a life-saving competition in four methods, by teams of four—This proved a very interesting event, the ladies showing to advantage.
