MOTOR ACCIDENT IN SYDNEY

WELL-KNOWN VIOLINIST KILLED

A. sensational motoring accident occurred in Sydney in the early hours of February 19. It resulted in the death of Miss Ivy Allen, a well-known violinist, while two other occupants of the car received grave injuries. The party comprised Messrs. J. A. Duncan, secretary and assistant manager of the Hotel Australia, and C. C. Rust, manager of the General Motors Export Company, Miss Allen, and Miss Annie Egan. Miss Allen and Miss Egan were members of the Hotel Australia orchestra. They had been playing at the hotel in the evening, and afterwards went to the T. and G. Buildings in Elizabeth Street. Messrs. Duncan and Rust arranged to take the girls to their homes, and after one o'clock the party left the T. and G. Buildings in the car, Mr. Bust driving. They went along William Street. At the College Street intersection the car apparently got out of control, and passing the museum, where the road slopes to a considerable degree, it worked up a terrific pace, and swerved and swayed until it dashed into a verandah post at the New Zealand Hotel, at the corner of William and Yurong Streets. It

is believed that the post was struck head on. It and two others near it were torn from the ground. The car turned a complete somersault and landed on its side.
