WOMAN RUN DOWN BY TAXI
•■ : » THE DRIVER ARRESTED. When Mrs. Etherington and her boy (who reside at No. 2 Parliament Street) were crossing Featherston Street at the junction of that street with Whitmore Street, on their way to town from the Ferry Wharf, a taxi swung suddenly round the corner from Featherston Street, and before Mrs. Etherington could clear the car, it had knocked her down. When she was picked up, it was found that she had sustained a cut on the scalp and a very severe bruising, from which she was still suffering last evening. By a miracle the child escaped all injury. Mrs. Etherington received medical attention and was taken to her homo in a dazed condition.
• The driver of the taxi was arrested on Satunhy evening on a charge of being under the influence of liquor whilst in charge of a motor-car.
