OUR MOUNTED MEN'S "PICNIC"

Sir,—May I say a few word,s through: your paper to a certain honourable member cf our Parliament in New Zealand ? I refer to the honourable gentleman whoso name I believe is Mr. Payne, and who made certain remarks or asked a certain question relative to the future movements of the New Zealand mounted troops. I understand that the honourable member asked the | House when the N.Z.M.R.'s were to be i taken from their picnic and sent to France to do a little fighting. Being a member of this little picnic party, I can inform the honourable gentleman that we do not go where we choose, bnir where we are told, and we do not' ■ know where we are going until .we get thn order to march. After the N.Z.M.R.'s were taken off the Gallipolr Peninsula they had no idea where they were going to be sent. They were rot; ;i.sl;od where they would like to go. Bufc they were prepared to go wherever they were sent, whether it was to France or to the North Pole or the South £ole,l or anywhere else, and they wera spnoj out into the desert, where I am toldi they have spent a most enjoyable holiday. . .

Whether this "picnic" is to continue or whether we will ever he sent to France or somewhere where there are dangers and hardship I do not know, but I would advise the honourable member to apply for information as to our future movements, not to the House of Parliament in New Zealand, but to Sir Douglas Haip. who, I have no doubt, will supply all the necessarv information. Thanking you. Mr. Editor, m anticipation.—l nni, etc., A MEMBER OF THE PTCNIO PARTY. "Somewhere in Palestine," December 28, X 1917.
