A BATTLESHIP BOY
Cadet J. F. Steemson, R.N., has established a record in the Navy, and the officers of the training sup Aereurv have reason to he proud of Mm (states the "Daily Mail"). The boy comes from OUerton, Newark, and wont to the Mercury with a sea-training scholarship from the Notts County Council. He became chief P.O. hoy and gave great satisfaction. On completine his course of training he joined the seaman branch of the Royal Navy, and was until recently an able-seaman in H.M. battleship Renown. Havine obtained permission to enter for a special cadet-ship (the examination for which is the same as for entry to Woolwich and Sandhurst), lie yas reached by some of the officers of the Renown and duly passed in competition acainst hoys from Eton and Harrow, obtaining his cadetship. He will soon rank as midshipman, R.N. 11ns is the first time a hoy from the lower deck has won a place as a public .school cadet.
