Mr. J. Barry, who has severed his connection with the commercial department of Thk Dominion to enter tile Government service, was last ovening the recipient of a presentation from his-associates on the staff.

The deceased, who was twenty-six years of age, was very popular in the AVairaI'ivpa. He left with the Tweut.v-sixtli Reinforcements. A third son has now gone to the front.
Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the" Auckland Employers' Association, who lias been visiting thij city, is leaving by steamer for Auckland' early'next week. Mr. Spencer is accompanied by his' wife and daughter. ■ . : '
On Thursday evening the employees of the firm of A. and T. Burt, Ltd., t-.s----.sembled to make a presentation to Jlr. Walter Eglm, who .lias severed his connection with tho. firm after some thirty .years' service. Speeches .were, made by Messrs.' Stevens, Clark, Gilclirist, pnd Hishon, expressing regret.at tho departure of Mr. Eglin, and, -assuring him of his co-workers' high appreciation of the 'courtesy and good fellowship which he had always shown the members of the staff.
On the eve of his departure for Dunedm, a presentation, consisting-of a solid silver fruit stana'-, was made yesterday to Mr. Robert A. Ewing, by the local staff .of Kempthorne, Prosser and Company's New Zealand Drug. Co., Ltd. Mr. Ewing, who has l)een act-ing-manager at Wellington for the past eighteen months, during the ■ absence of Mr. William Jack on active service, has now severed his connection with the firm (after. , an association of ever thirty-sis years,tdurii)g the greater pert of which time he has been manager at Dunedin), in order to give more iime to the interests or the Ewing Phosphate Co., Ltd., of Dunedin, which he controls. Mr. J. Duff; who has held the position of .accountant, takes over the acting-managership, and Mr. A. G. Davis to fill Mr. Duff's posi-' fiou as acting-accountant. ' ''

The many friends of the Rev. J. M'Caw, of"the Lower Hutt,.wiir regret to learn that he received news by cablegram yesterday of the death, of his son, ' Peter Eaiikino M'Caw, at No. 4 Stationary Hospital, France, on February 26. The late Mr. M'Caw was wounded and gassed in June last and lievor recovered from tho effects. Mr. M'Caw had entered the teaching profession and enlisted during the last year of his training at the Teachers' College and- Victoria College. He was appointed to tho staff of tho Petonc District High School, but had never actually taken up his position. Mr. M'Caw. was a general favourite with all, and he will be missed by a large circle'of student friends.
Good news of Captain J. B. Hine, M.P., arrived by the last mail. Captain Hine, who is serving > with the New Zealand mounted forces attached to the army now invading Palestine, was very severely wounded about four months' ago, one of his lungs being •penetrated by a bullet. Thanks, however, to a sound constitution and a favourable climate, he is in a fair way to make a complete recovery. . At the ond of December, eight weeks ufter being wounded, he /was still in hospital convalescing, but his injured lung was then reported to be healing' splendidly, and it was expected that he would suffer no permanent ill-effects. In tho course of a cheerful noto to a friend in Wellington, Captain. Hine observes that ho does not anticipate being invalided to New Zealand.
