THE ANZAC ARMY CORPS

NEW ZEALAND STATEMENT DENIED. Melbourne, February 23. Senator Pearcc had his attention directed, during the week, to .a statement in a New Zealand paper regarding the disappearance of the- Anzac Army Corps. The paper said: "There appears to be no doubt that the disappearance of the Anzac Corps was due to the inability of the Australian command, to maintain the five Australian divisions at full strength. The shortage of reinforcements from Australia made itnecessarV to break up one division."

"That statement is incorrect," was the comment of Senator Pearce. "It is not correct to say that the inability of the Australian command to maintain the five divisions led to the change. Mind, I do not say that we can maintain them; but I do say that our inability or supposed inability to maintain them had nothing to do with the change. We now have an Australian Army Corps. Nothing more can be ,eaid at present."
