SOUTHERN BOYS WAR-CRY
SIR JAMES CARROLL AND THE AIRMEN.
During a recent visit of Sir James Carroll to Dunedin a band ' of flying students fronr the Sockburn Aviation School who are .going to England waited upon Sir James and asked him to give them a war-cry distinctive of their particular branch of the Army. In response to their request tho Mowing was composed and presented to them, and' as it is to be handed on to all the students who have previously passed through Sookbum and are now either on active service or are continuing their work with, that end in view; it is extremely probable that it mil become the recognised battle-rally of the school, to be heard in many distant countries and strange surroundings. The following is the war-cry as presented by Sir James Carroll and made familiar to the people of Dunediu by the flying boy? :— (Solo.) ' (Chorus.) Karearea Hi I Knrearea • &> KopuTeKiore Hi I KopuTeKiore Hi Hapu Ki Waenga Hi Hapu Ki Waenga Hi! (All together.) PoKaPp Haercmai he awlu Hoi! Kail The composition is descriptive of the sparrowliawk searching the air for its pray and when found pouncing upon it. Roughly translated it > is as under:— ■ / Sparrowhawk, Catch the rat, Out in the open. Night has arrived, Come we together, You are my prey.
