Admiral Jellicoe's new title is Viscount Jellicoo of Scapa (Orkney).— Press Assn. Advices have been received from Auckland to tho effect that Mr. William Pryor (secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation) was making satisfactory progress since operated upon a fow days ago. Mrs. Pryor is visiting Auckland in connection wii-h her husband's illness. Sergeant Allan Law, who prior to enlisting with tho Main Body was employed in the Dannevirke branch of the Dank of New Zealand, has been awarded tho French Croix de Guerre. Sergeant Law is a son of Mr. J. Law, now of To Awamutu and formerly ot Dannevirke. Mr. F. W. Gibbs, of Tapawera, has received a message from the Minister oi Defence advising that his brother, Private William Isaac Gibbs, of Motupiko, died of measles, bronchitis, and pneumonia at the Military Hospital, Tidworth, on February 20. Private Gibbs, who left Now Zealand with tho Tiiirty-lirst Reinforcements, was sheepfarming at Motupiko prior to onlisting.

Mr. S. Bryant, chairman of tho Makara County Council, has been advised that his brother, Private John Ernest Bryant, of tlie Twenty-eighth Reinforcements, was killed in action in France on February 8. Private Bryant's ,death is keenly felt in the Ohariu and Makara districts, where by bis quiet, unassuming nature, he gained the respect and esteem of all. This is the third member of the Bryant family to suffer tho extreme sacrifice, while several havo been wounded.

Tho many friends in Wanganui of Mr. It. M. Gatenby (says the "Herald"), at ono time in business there as a chemist, will bo interested to hear that his youngest son, 11 r. James Bronte Galenby, 8.A., of Jesus College, has been elected to a Senior Demyship at Magdalen College, Oxford, for four years, to carry on research work' on imibryological and cyological problems. Mr. Gatenby was educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and won an exhibition in zoology at Jesus College. Ho was placed in the first class in the Final Honour School in Zoology in 1916, and has been acting as demonstrator in zoology and histology in the university laboratories for the University Medical School.

At tho conclusion of the Oddfeliow (Wellington District) Conference yesterday evening P.I'.G.M. Bro. Alfred Perriu," Press representative for ten years past, was presented with a case of pipes (engraved) and a tobacco pouch as a slight token of the appreciation of his services. In referring to the death in action of ono of the Harbour Board's umployees, Private Sharpe, the chairman (Mr. G. E. Danioll) stated at last evoning's meeting that the deceased had a good record with the bonrd. <ind an especially good military record. He wont to Samoa at the first call, and on his return went forward to Gallipoli, where ho was wounded. On his recovery, ho enlisted again and went to France. He was posted as wounrled and missing, but subsequently he was reported to have been killed in action on July 31 last. Private Sharpe was a singlo man about 38 years "f age, with no relatives in New Zealand. His mother resided in Eneland, and, nn the chairman's motion, it was decided that the secretary should write to her, forwarding the board's condolences and the pride they -ill felt because her son hfl done so well.
