OVER £700 A YEAR AT WOOLWICH ARSENAL. The high wages paid to clever workmen in Britain (recently revealed at Mansfield, when evidence was given that a workman summoned for not paying income tax earned £998 a year) is not an isolated case (states the "Daily Mail"). In Woolwich Arsenal there is a highly skilled workman who tempers steel in one of the forges whose weekly wage is £I's a week. The avorage weekly wages of mechanics of" the highest grade in the Arsenal vary from £10 to £12 a week. Ordinary, mechanics average £6 or £7 a week.
At Coventry among the riiachine-gun makers skilled turners are stated to make up to £20 a week; wet grinders, £12 to £15; and machinists, £7 to £S, often without previous experience.
