(Res. February 26, 0.40 a.m.) London, February 24. The bar to the Military Medal haa been awarded to the following New Zealanders:— Colour-Sergeants J. Matthews, W. N. Thorns, W. H. Burrows, J. E. A heavy sea prevented the rescuers approaching, and the vessel was quickly pounded to pieces. One hundred and fifty-six people are believed to havo been lost.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu. A wireless message •" from Madrid states that the- Spanish ship Marcospio, from New York, «as torpedoed when two hundred miles from the Canary Islands, 'Be steamer. Clandeo Lopez saw a submarine firo forty rounds at the sinking vessel. The Lopez rescued the" crow.
