SWIMMING

HATAITAI BATHING CLUB'S SPORTS, The anuiial sports of the Hataitai Bathing. Club were held in Hataitai Bay on Saturday in ideal weather. There was an attendanco of between 700 and 800 people, including Councillors Frost and J. Luckie. Tho events were well contested, aud great interest was taken in the club championship race, for the Boyd challenge cup and president's medal, which was again won by Phil Edwards. Councillor Frost presented the prizes, and congratulated tho president of the club (Mr. R A. Batt) and tho committee for their excellent management and efforts in fostering swimming in the district. Mrs, Halliday and a committee of ladies collected £3 10a. for the Red Cross Funds. The results were as follow, Boys> under 10 years, 25yds—H. Olandge, 1; H. Bishop,' 2. EVANS BAY 01/08. Under ideal conditions _ the Evans Bay Swimming Club got off its fortnightly events. A good deal of interest centred in the main event, a one-mile handicap. Seven competitors faced the starter, four finishing the'whole distance. Tho result was:—Eaves, Gmin. 3scc., 1; Patterson, 2: M'Pharland. lmin. 3sec„ 3; Turner, 3min. 17scc., 4. Also started: Wilson, 6min. Msec.; Atkinson, 6:nin. 3scc.; and Andrewartha, 4min. 33sce. Won by twenty-five yards. Tisie, 32min. 43sec.
