Wadding in St. John's Church. The marriago or Miss lsobel Lilian Thompson, second daughter of Mr. and ■Mrs. U\ J. Thompson, ol 23 Muanuna Crescent, Wellington, to Sapper Matthew George Jiiistoii, i\l.M., youngcsL son of ihe laio :Vir. L. D. Easton, solicitor, of ilutueka, and, Mrs. Easton, now ol Wanganui, took place at St. John's Presbyterian Church on Friday, February «. The Rev. Dr. Gibb officiated, and Miss Mary Claehan, a friend of 'tho bride, played Mendelssohn's "Wedfiing March.'' The bride wore a frock of cream georgette, hand-embroidered in shell pink, and a veil, with orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of palo pink and cream loses audi maidenhair feru. Her sister, Miss Eflic Thompson, attended as bridesmaid, and wore a frock of floral voile, and hat to match. Her bouquet was of palo pink and ueiiofcropo flowers. The bridegroom, who recently returned from France, after an absence of over two years on active service with the Now Zealand Engineers, was attended by Mr. E. Mnrriner, of Wanganui, as best man. Many friends of tho bride and bridegroom were prosent at the ceremony, including the mother of the bridegroom and Mesdames Stewart and Carroll, of Wanganui, the bridegroom's sisters. Later ■ in the afternoon Sapper and Mrs. Easton left for the north. Thorndon Red Cross Shop Day. A meeting of the Thorndon Day Red Cross Shop Committee was held in the gymnasium of the Sydney Street Soldiors' Club yesterday afternoon for the purpose of making arrangements in connection with their day (April 14) at the Wellington Red Cross Shop. Mrs. W. F. Massey presided. Some discussion took place as to whether it would be advisable to divide the Thorndon workers into three different Bections, when, instead of two Thorndon days being held at the shop, eacli section would hold two days each, making six shop daws throughout tho year. As the feeling of the meeting appeared to be in favour of remaining as at present constituted, it was decided to make 110 alteration, and as already stated two days will be held at tho shop, in which all the Thorndon workers will take part in some form or another, and in addition two cako days will bo held. It was decided that tho second Thorndon day for this year would be held some time in August. Mrs. Massey stated that the sum of money which remained over from tho quilt radio of last year would he used to purchase groceries of all which would form one of tho raffles in connection with April 14. Stalls wore allotted as follow: Work stall, Mrs. Hall; sweets, Mrs. Richardson; cakes, Miss Eraser; produce, Mrs. Shirtcliffo iind Mrs. Dyer; meat, Mrs. C. Earle and Mrs. Browne; rallies, Mrs. Bolton and Mrs. Gillon, the latter also collecting for an egg stall; nut stall, Mrs Phillips-Turner. Mrs. Leslie will a train mako pics of all kinds, as she did last year, for the Thorndon day, and will take ordeis for from the beginning of next month: This effort of "Mrs. Leslie's last year was immensely successful, and a very satisfactory sum-of money was added to the total amount. Christmas at Walton. Writing to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. ,1 M. A. Mowat, of Rangiora, _ Sergeant Percy Mowat makes some inter.esiins; remarks concerning Christmas, 1917,° as experienced at W alton-on-Tliames. "People here did not go m much for festivals," he says "In fact, you would hardly know that it was Christmas, and what with food rations and the price of everything people cannot have many gaieties. Dutjt was a food Christmas for tho boys in hospital. We had a great • dinner, with stuffed turkey, roast beef, ham, all ports of vegetables, plum pudding and saucc, iellics, fruit, sweets, cigars and cigarettes. ■ I think most of us ate more than was good for us. There were a lingo Christmas tree and a hickydip and afternoon tea at the Y.M.C.A. There is a bridge tournament to-nigm>i to be followed by a dance I don t know how I'll shape at the dancing, but I intond having a try at it. 1 believe our fellows were 111 the line acain for Christinas, and so I suppose while wo were enjoying ourselves here thev were exchanging ironmongery with old' Fritz." Sergeant Mowat has lost his left arm, also the forefinger of his right hand.
Mr. and Mrs. Hector Smith, of Hawke's Bay, are'visiting Mount Cook.
Mrs. Peat and Miss Isabel Peat have left for Australia, where they intend to stay for some time.

A meeting of tho Sociotv for the Protection of Women and Children was held yesterday afternoon, Lady Stout presiding. There were also present: Mesdames W. A. Evans, M.A., A. Hoby, I' 1 . Chapman, Griffiths, Glover, and Miss Parlane and Dr. Paterson. A large number of cases which had been investigated were reported, and help rendered wherp necessary, and others are being attended to. Miss Annette Portman returned this week from Sydney on a visit to her parents, after an absence abroad of six years.
St. John Ambulance and Red Cross. At the monthly committee meeting ot the St. John Ambulance Brigade Red Cross Society, held at tho Star Boating Sheds on Thursday afternoon there wen- present: Mr. 11. H. Seed (Commissioner, in the chair), Mesdames Preston, Tnwso, Gaby, Collett, and Galvin, and Mr. J. S. M'Arthur. It was explained that the statemont of receipts and expenditure for the quarter ending December 31, 1917, nave been held over, owing to illness in the xeorctary's family. Hegret was expressed at the latter statement. It was reported that work at the depot was resumed on January 28, an] (Turing the three weeks to dftto 43 cases, comprising 3921 garments and 7141 bandages and hospital dressings, had been forwarded to St. John's Gate, London, for the use of New Zoaland's sick-and wounded. A letter was read from tho lion, secretary, Lambton Quay Red Cross Shop, asking tlio committee to organise their shop for May 31. It wns decided it wag impossible to acccde to the request, owing to the fact that tho committco would lie working hard for tho success of their own Red Cross Shop in Woodward Street the previous week. Tho resignations of Mrs. Peat, Miss Esson, and Mr. C'owlob, lion, secretary, were accepted with regret. It was decided to place on record tho valuable assistance Mrs. Peat had rendered the brigade, and grfiat sorrow was expressed that the illness of her daughter (late lion, secretary of the brigade) should have necessitated their resignations. Mrs. Helyer and Mrs. Magill were unanimously olected as members of the committee. Mrs. Preston, the lady superintendent, was deputed to attend the coinmitteo of the Red Triangle Day Fund. During tho afternoon a visit was paid to the depot by Dr. Agnes Bennett, who was met by several old ambulance associates. ' The doctor expressed gratification at tho work she saw dona by the depot.
