WITHIN FOUR MILES OF THE CITY
OPERATIONS IN PROGRESS
The New Zealand High Commissioner reports :—
London, February 21,, 2p m. ' Palestine official report:—"Wo have approached within four miles of Jericho on a front of seven and three-quarter miles. DETAILS OF THE ADVANCE London, February 21. An official report from Palestine states: —Our advance oast of Jerusalem was resumed yesterday. In spite of heavy rainstorms, the difficult : nature of the country, and the enemy's obstinate resistance, we advanced three and a half miles on a front of eight miles to within four miles of Jericho. Simultaneously we advanced a mile on a, front of four-miles west of the Jerusa-lem-Nablus Road. The air .service cooperated, and bombed the enemy's camps and depots ten and a half miles east-north-east of Jericho. Our losses on Tuesday were of the slightest; yes-, terday's have not yet been reported. Tho operations continue."
A later report from Palestine states: —"We attacked yesterday morning east of Jerusalem on a front of fifteen miles, and- secured all our objectives by the eveting to sin average depth of two miles."—Aus.-N.Z. Cables Assu.-Reu-ter.
