BRILLIANT RAIDS BY THE BRITISH ARMY SQUADRONS
NAVAL SQUADRONS RAID BELGIUM
London, February 20,
Sir Douglas Haig reports: "Our aviators yosterday bombed an aerodrome north of Douai, a large dump at Courtrai, and a railway station south-east of Douai. There is continuous air fighting. We brought down eleven machines, and drove down six. Two of ours are missing. We bombed Treves and Thionville last night from a low altitude, with good results. Five bursts were observed at the Treves station, which was left in flames, and three other buildings were ignited. Bursts were observed at the Thionville railway gasworks, and a large fire followed. One of i our machines is missing. We dropped bombs in Treves in a daylight raid to-day. Eleven bursts were noted on the railway station, and six on neighbouring buildings, and three fires were started. We repeatedly drove off hostile scouts. The anti-aircraft fire was considerable. One of our machines has not returned." The Admiralty reports: "Naval aircraft last night dropped many tons of explosives at the St. Denis-Westrem aerodrome and the Bruges docks, and drove down attacking hostile scout machines. To-day they dropped large quantities of explosives at the Aertrycke aerodrome and the Engel dump, with good results. During patrols, our aircraft shot down a seaplane in flames, brought down a scout in our lines, and drove down one machine. AH the British aeroplanes returned."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.Reuter. TRENCH RAIDS AND ARTILLERY DUELS. London, February 20. Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We repulsed raiders southward of Armentieres. Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We completely repulsed an enemy raid eastward of Arleaux en Gohelle, and carried out several successful local enterprises north-east of Wytschaete."—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.-R'euter. ON THE FRENCH FRONT London, February 20. A French official communique states; "There is fairly great artillery activity in the Champagne and on the right bank of the Meuse. "Between Febmary 16 and 18 we brought down eighteen of the enemy machines. The railway stations at Metz-Sablons, Forzbach, and Bensdor,f, and depots at Ensiesveim were bombed. A high British officer; m an interview published in the "Matin," says: "The Germans must precipitate an assault, and mako an effort to finish things at all costs in order to justify tho promises made to the troops.
