THE SHIPPING SUPPLY
SHORTAGE TO BE EXPECTED,
A statement; of the greatest importance regarding the shipping supply tor this country's trado was made by the Prime Minister yestorday in reply to an inquiry on the subject by a reporter. f "I am sorry to say that the outlook is not nearly so good as it was bix weeks or two months ago," said Sir. Masse;). "Fortunn, taly, in January and up till the present in this month, the supply of shipping has been good, and we have very greatly reduced our stocks of frozen meat and dairy produce in the different cold stores throughout the Dominion. J think that even now there will be no serious difficulty t>c far as frozen meat ;Mid cheese are concerned. The difficulty, 1 am afraid, will be with regard to wool, flax,, tallow, and other commodities, which are very often considered to be of minor importance, but which in the aggregate are of importance to the Dominion as a whole. 1 hope the trouble will not last very long, but it is just as well for the puhlic to know that for the next six weeks or two months the supply of shipping, especially for tho articles I have mentioned, will not he so good as it has been since the commencement of the year. I have only to say that the Government will continue to do everything it possibly can to easo the position" l
