CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
, MONTHLY MEETING,
Messrs. A. Leigh-Hunt, J. F./Atkins; Thomas Forsyth, Hardie-Shaw, J. S. Barton, and H. Hart were present at the monthly meeting of the Central Chamber of Commerce held yesterday. In respect to the question of handling parcels in bulk oh the railways, it was decided to reply to the Palmerstou North Chamber that in view of the information received, no further action be taken by the Central Chamber. . ■ A.letter was received from the Xvew Zealand Natives'' Association desiring the assistance of the chamber in its Easter egg surprise packet y scheme. The secretary (Mr. A. J. Petheriok) explained that the association proposed to raise money to erect a hall in Majoribanks Street, which' would be a place for the association to meet, and u home for returned soldiers. Mr. J. .F. Atkins said it was hardly the kind of thing the chamber should take interest in. This soldiers' homo business., he said, was a very intricate subject for the chamber to put its brand on. It was agreed to leave the request to be dealt with by the executive.
The secretary announced that he had received a letter from the British Engineers' Association, forwarding aii official directory of its members, and offering to render any assistance that members of the chamber may require. Forty-six new members were elected.
