MR. HOLLAND AT NORTHLAND
Mr. H. E. Holland addressed a meeting in the . Methodist Schoolroom at Northland last night. Mr. J. Readpresided, and Jlr. Holland was supported on the platform by Jlr. P. C. Webb, M.P. , Mr. Holland-spoke for the most part on matters which he had already dealt with in previous speeches of the campaign. One of the" ppints on which he attacked tbe Government was that of the land settlement policy for soldiers. He declared that the Government was buying small pieces of land—"a bit hero and a bit there"—and selling it to tho soldiers again at enormous prices. These prices, he said, were sure to fall, and the soldier would be burdened with sucli a load of debt that he would not bo able to make a living. His policy would be to take the best land in the country, not at the prices asked 1 by the monopolists who held it, but at reasonable prices, and (live it to the soldiers at prices which would enable them to make a living off it. Mr. Webb also addressed the meeting. He made mock of the cry "Win the AVor" as used by the Government, and said that in effect the meaning of it was that all logic, and reason must be set aside. He claimed for Labour members in tbe House most of tbe credit for the incroo.se in the pensions for soldiers and their dependants from the scale fixed in the first Act passed to those of the present scale. 'The meeting carried a vote of confidence in Mr. Holland.
