DROWNING ACCIDENT

Particulars have been received of e sad accident which occurred at latea, resulting in the death by drowning of Joyce Hemingway, the thirteen-year-that a number of girls were bathing i, the Pntea Biver when Ed.e Larcombe and tho deceased, who were hand-in-hand got out of their-depth. Tho current was running out fast, ami . Veithcr of the g.| could swim they were soon m difficulties. In response to the encs of the Master Walter Gosling and Mr. P. Oakley went to tho rescue. It was on y pos•■ibli' to get Edie Larcombe to the shore, the other unfortunate girl not being seen again. First aid was immediately applied to the rescued girl, and she was brought round, though sulforing severely from shock. The spot just below-whore the accident happeiiwl is one of the most dangerous, in tho river. A little further '.up...the liver is considered safe,, but the gins, in their enthusiasm, evidently got ton far down without noticing, and probably fell into a hole, the current carrying thorn out. . ;
