HIGH SCHOOLS
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ESTABLISHMENTS. - At the General Council of Education yesterday the following tommittee report was received regarding the establishment of high schools, eta. 1 Hiiwera,—(a) That the Minister_ to be advised to establish a technical high school at Hawera under the provisions of section 88 of the Education Act. (b) That such a high school he lioi established until tho parents of at least sixty pupils' with certificates_of proficiency have expressed in writing their • intontion of enrolling them in such school. Feilding — (a) That the Minister be advised io establish a technical high school at Feilding under the provisions of section SS of tho Education Act. (b) That the Minjster be. advised that such a school bo not established until a, site of at least six acres is locally provided. ' Lyttelton.—(a) That the Minister he advised to take 110 action regarding tbii disestablishment of the Lyttelton District High School at present, (b) That the matter be reconsidered if the average attendance falls below 20.' Taumarunui.—That the Minister be advised to establish a district j high school at Taumarunui in accofrdanco with the terms of section 88 of the Education Act. Helensvillc.—That tho Minister be informed that tho council is unable to advise the establishment at present of a district high school at Helensville. , jlala Mata.— I That the Minister be advised to establish a' district high schooi at 'Mata Mata under the terms of section 88 of the Act. Auckland Grammar School Fens.— That the Minister bo advised to accede to tho request of the Auckland Grammar School for an increase of the. fees to. £10 10s. for pupils under thirteen and £13 ]os. for pupils over thirteen. Secondary Schools: Schemes of Contlrc^i—"That scihemes of control of girls secondary-schools bo modified so as to require that all girls exclusive of those in any lower, departments shall take homo science as prescribed for junior free pupils." Wellington College Scheme, of Control.—(a) That' tho scheme as submitted he amended with respcet io Clause 2, Sub-clause (2) by adding: '"Provided that all.girls, not pupib in the lower department, shall' leceive instruction in homo science in such manner as is necessary to comply with the conditions for free places, (b) That il' necessary a new clause he inserted providing the method of appointment of a member of the Education Board, (e) That the Minister be advised to npprovo of tho scheme as amended. Methven and Blackball.—That consideration of the application for the establishment of n district high school lie deferred for further information Pukekohe—That the motion passed hv the council on June 21, J917. referring to tho type of high school to he established at Pukekohe he rescinded, .Mid that the Minister be advised to establish a technical high school in the terms of Section RS of the Education Act. and in the like regard that the District High School be disestablished. The report was adopted.
