Ho has s fine, strong, overarm stroke and a perfect glide. This he effects by swimming with straight legs and using the propeller kick, after the manner of Duke Knhanamoku, the famous Hawaiian swimmer. He was never really pushed in any of the races. Little Janio Post swims with the utmost confidence, and makes no fuss in the water. She has not yet learned to turn adroitly, and lost a couple of Yards in the long races through that shortcoming, but a few lessons in that art should cut down her times appreciably. Intermediate Championships. For the New Zealand intermediate championships (under 17 years of ago on October 1 last), the Wellington Swimming Centre has nominated David Mnrroll (Wellington). Edith Buckmaster (Hataitai), and Maudo Allen (Kilbirnie) to swim at the Wanganui Carnival on Wednesday and Friday next. At yesterday's gathering Mr. A. M. Earneil acted as starter, Mr. G. S. Hill as timekeeper, and Messrs. Foster, Kean, Kidson,' Thwaites, and East (schoolmasters) were the judges. Early on a recent morning in Melbourne several men attacked three chauffeurs at tho garage of the Taxicab Company in Fitzrov Street, St. Kikia. Two of the chauffeurs afterwards had to undergo treatment at a hospital, and later in the day five men were arrested in connection with the occurrence. According to information given to the police, at- about 1 o'clock fifteen men and two women entered the garage, and intimated that they wished to cngago two cars to drive them to tbo city'. George Drew, ono of the chauffeurs, drove a car to the garage entrance, and was then brutally assaulted. Two other chauffeurs, M'lvor and Christio, who went to his assistance, were similarly treated, and M'lvor is said to have been in danger of being kicked to death. Finally the party left the garage. AH tlireo. chauffeur's were, bruised and bleeding. M'lvor received severe bodily injuries, having three of his Tibs broken. Drew's nose was broken, and Christie suffered from shock and bruises.
