MEN'S DEMANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, February 14. At the Conciliation Council to-day the. City Corporation Tramways Ofiicials' Industrial Union of Workers applied for an award. Mr. Alexander, tramways manager, said that certain officials were appointed at a yoarly salary, and he questioned whether wages could be fixed by the council. The Commissioner said ho had very little doubt that they could he fixed by the council. Mr. Lewiu, Town Clerk, said that as this was the. first case of the kind the City Council desired it to come hefore the Arbitration Court. It would never agree to the incorporation of tho accountant, the chief traffic clerk, and the chief revenue clerk in an award unless by direction of the Court. Tin} -union asked for wages and salaries on the following scales, the corporation counter-proposals being given in parentheses: —Accountant, £300 per annum (£280); chief traffic clerk, £280 (£220); chief revenue clerk, £250 (£220); depot engineer, £6 us. per week (£4 las.); car-body foreman, £5 (£4 10s.'); overhead and permanent way foreman, £o (£4 10s.); traffic clerk, £3 15s. (£3 ]0s.); storeman, £3 15s. (£3 10s.); traffic clerk (junior),' £2 (£1 55.); revenue clerks (plus 3s. | war bonus), £3 12s. 6d. (£3 10s.); i .chief inspector, £4 7s. 6d. (£4 7s. 6d.); traffic inspectors (plus 3s. war bonus), £3 17s. Gd. (£3 17s. 6d.); ticket inspectors (plus 3s. war bonus), £3 12s. 6d. (£3 12s. 6d.). The union asked for all Sunday work to he. paid for at 2s. per hour, also for an additional day's pay for work done on Christmas Day and Good Friday; a fortnight's holiday to, bo allowed each year ; members working on public holidays (excepting Christmas Day and Good Friday) to have an equal number of days added to their annual leave. The corporation objected to anything beyond the two weeks' holiday. It also asked that the rates allowed should cover Sunday and holiday work. The questions of salaries and holidays were referred to the Arbitration Court.
