MIRAMAR BOROUGH
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) preBided over the ordinary meeting of the Miramar Borough Council held last evening. There were present: Councillors M. Iv. Robcrtshaw, M. Tracy, S. H. Underwood, and H. Hawthorne. Councillor Underwood moved: "That a convenience be erected on the east side of Stafford Street, south of Dundas Street, and towards the rear of trie corner section." There was considerable difference of opinion, three councillors being opposed to the site named, while the Mayor and the mover were strongly in favour of the motion. The Mayor said a convenience was urgently needed, and he was of opinion tljat the cite named in the motion was the very best. .He knew thero were other sites, and conveniences will have to be erected thereon. • He was opposed to providing such accommodation at the intersection of streets. The motion was defeated on the voices. A petition signed by 26 residents or Worser Bay and Seatoun was received requesting that the council should reconsider the question of issuing permits for camping. It was stated b\ the* petitioners that apart from 'he very serious aspect of the matter arising out of sanitation, disposal of refuse, etc., the occupation of these sites was depriving picnic parties of the use of some most desirable spots, in the interests of the tram .service lik'V thought the daily pleasure traffic should bo encoiiraged. They protested against these camps, as they might easily tecome a danger and a menaco to the health and cleanliness of the bay. The Mayor explained that all applications for permission to ercct tents by campers were dealt with on. their merits, and there was no standing order on the matter.
