Norton, who has been on holiday leave, has taken command of Ms vessel at Wellington, relieving Captain J. R. Stringer, who has come ashoro ior instructions. Captain J. Morrieon, of tlie Union Company's service, is at present in Dunodin waiting instructione. Mr E. Herring purser on a Union Company's cargo vessel, has come ashore. Perishable cargo only will be received to-day by tho Maori. The Opawa, which went aground on the Wairau bar on Wednesday last, was floated off yesterday at high tide yesterday morning, and went on to Blenheim. Tho Opawa will be brought to Wellington to. morrow, when she will go on the Patent Slip for inspection. To-night the Union Oompaiiy s colliera Kamo and Komata will return to the Wfst Coast to load for Wellington. The Kainona is due here to-morrow morning from ■Westport. Sho might go to Napier from Wellington. Tho Blackball colliers Ngatoro and Ji gahero are due at Wellington at thp enfi of the weok from Greymouth.. _ The auxiliary echooner Houto is aue at, Wellington in a few days with general cargo from Dunedin. The owners of the vessel advise that she will probably roturn to Dunedin with general cargo from Wellington, and subsequently load tnero for Kaipara. . , , Mr. B. Green of Greenwich, formorly a champion sculler, claims to have invented an unsinkablo lifeboat (save the Sydney "Sun") The model is built in two sections.
