SOUTHERN MARKETS

By Telegraph.—Press Aasociation. Christchurch, February 12. A fairly large quantity of wheat lias already changed hands, most of which is still unthrashed. Only small quantities have so far been received by the mills. Wheat standards have not-, yet been fixed by the Controller, but it is expected that 'they will he lower than usual. Offerings of oats have fallen off considerably, and the market is firmer. Most of those thrashed early have now evidently changed hands, and it will not'be until after the main thrashing that supplies will become more plentiful. Cartons are quoted at 3s. 3d. to 3s. 6d., and Algerians, Duns, and Danish, 3s. to 3s. 3d., at country stations. The barley market is a little firmer than at the opening, and up to 65., at country stations, has been paid for very prime samples. ' There is no change in oatsheaf chaff. Very little rye grass is now offering. The cocksfoot market has been in a somewhat uncertain state owing to the amount of speculation that has taken placc. Both forward selling and forward buying were freely indulged in, and much seed _that was bought is not'dressing out m buyers' 'favour. • Good heavy seed is worth jip to Is. per lb. There is no business doing in potatoes as merchants are being well supplied with locallv-srown potatoes.
