RESERVISTS' APPEALS

CASES 1-kEARO YESTERDAY. The Third Wellington Military Service Board met yesterday. Mr. D. ■M. Findlay presided, and had with him Mr. A. O'L. Considine and Mr. M. J. Mack. Captain 1 , . Baldwin was the military representative. The Commandant of the Forces appealed on behalf of Major 0. E. Andrews, Assistant-Adjutant-General, and Lieutenant W. R. Johns, Dental Corps, Featherston Camp. These officers were already members of the Forces, and were being employed as required by the military authorities. The appeals were adjourned sine die. It was mentioned that Major Andrews had been on active service in Gallipoli and France for two years and a half. An appeal made by the InspectorGeneral of Hospitals on behalf of Dr. A. S. Moody, in practice at Outram, Otago, was adjourned sine die. It was stated that tho services of tho doctor were essential to the district. The case of W. A. Dabinett, light-house-keeper, Elnifilie Bay, was adjourned sine die on tho appeal of the Secretary for Marine. The Secretary for Agriculture appealed on behalf of G. Thomson (Napier), G. B. Williams (AVestport), and A. 0. Seandrett (AVaihi), meat inspectors, in the employ of the Agricultural Department. Thomson and Seandrett had been classed C 2, and their cases Were adjourned sine die. Williams was granted leave until June. Tho Inspector of Prisons appealed for C. E. M'Gill, prison warder, Auckland, and the case was adjourned sine die. A. T. Gorrio, sheep and dairy farmer, Wallaceville, had been classed C 2 and his case was adjourned sine die. An' appeal made by E. S. Mirams, accountant, Wellington, was dismissed. Tho appellant to enter camp in May. Gerald C. Wilson, clerk, Napier, was shown to be under age, and an apnea! made by his father on his behalf was allowed. ■ ' T. M. Dunn, engineer fitter, Wellington, was granted suspension sine die on the apneal of his employers. J. J. Niven, Ltd., AVollinirton. The firm had only threo fitters left. The following men showed that they belonged to classes not yet called up, and their appeals were allowed:—C. Leatham, contractor, Lower Hutt; S. Craig, seaman, Wellington; F. G. M'Lean, .seaman, Lyttelton; J. Bird, wharf labourer, Wellington; A. T. E. Truemau, salesman, Wellington; P. V. Thomson, grocer, Wellington: G. A. Waddle, motor engineer, Wellington; Govind Fakir, dealer,, Wellington: D. H. Taylor, coachbnildcr, Island Bay; W. E. Sewell, coal dealer, Brooklyn; J. T. Johnson, driver, Wellington. Tho appeal of John M'Clcn, motorman, Constable Street, was further adjourned for four months. Tho appeal was based on the ground of unduo hardship. The appeals of the following seamen were adjourned sine die on the usual conditions:—Angus Mathieson, J. Hawthorne, M. J, Mackenzie, J. C. Hedley, H. Somers, W. E. Barnes, A. E. Parker, J. H. Hands, W. Newdick, H. M'Lean, S. Sharp, and W. Beeves. ■ The Cooks' Union appealed on behalf of Albert Muir, a cook employed on a New Zealand transport. The case was adjourned sine die, subject to the reservist continuing in his present employment. The case of Wrika Panchia, bottledealer, Ilaining Street, was adjourned sine die.

An employer's appeal was .wade on behalf of George Sandwith, commercial traveller, Wellington (Mr. Blair). It was stated that Sandwith's employer, Mr. J. Morrison (New Zealand representative for Messrs. 1. and 11. Morley, Ltd.), was doing important work for the Munitions Department. If the reservist was .taken, Morrison would have to abandon tho munitions work and devote his attention exclusively to his firm's business. Tho Ministry of Munitions considered that Morrison's services were of greit importance. Tho board adjourned the appeal for three months. Andrew M'Kenzie, Hataitai (Mr. von Haast) was granted leave until May. He was a voluntary recruit., for whom an employer's appeal was made. Further leave until March 13 was granted to AY. M. Jackson, carpenter, Taita.
