CONCRETE TRACK ON HUTT ROAD
TENDERS TO BE CALLED. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke). Messrs. F.-T. Moore, J. A. M'Ewan, H. Baldwin, and S. Bryant were present at a meeting of the 'Hutt Road Board held in the Mayor's room yesterday afternoon to consider measures for pushing ahead with the formation of the proposed concrete track to he laid down on the Hutt Road between Wellington and Petone. After a discussion on tho great necessity of the proposed track as the only means of checking the enormous wear and tear on tho road, it was decided that the City Engineer be instructed to go ahead with the plans and call for tenders forthwith. A _sug"estion was made that the work might, in view of the unsettled state of the labour market, be done in sections, but that idea did not find general acceptance. , , , r A letter was received from Messrs. Dwan Bros., suggesting that in the layinn; down of the concrete track consideration might be given to the idea of providing "for a double tramway truck. The letter was received.
