CITY CRICKET
SATURDAY MATCHES WINS FOR TRENTHAM, OLD BOYS AND EAST Rain threatened for the whole of Saturday afternoon, but the very light, I drizzling showers which fell were not ! sufficient to interfere with cricket at I the Basin Reserve. The rain of the morning and the previous night had not. done any harm at all to the wickets, which were in good order. The only game about which there conld be any doubt as to the result was that between North and Old Boys. Old Boys had a lead on the first innings scores, but North ran up a score of 233 in their second attempt. Their only chance of winning the match now I was to get Old Boys out for less than the score of some 150 runs, which represented the difference between the totals, hut this they could not do. Old Boys had rather a better chance of getting the runs required for a threepoint win, and might have done so but for the very bad light towards the end of the day. Indeed, so bad was the light that play was abandoned before the time fixed for the drawing of rtumps. Trentham beat Petone by an innings and 34 runs. For Trentham, Dwyer contributed a century towards the total of 311 runs scored by the side. When Petone vent to the wickets to face Crawford and Smyrke they had a very bad time, and the side was all out for 113. Returned Soldiors had two strike's without getting anywhere hear the first innings scorn registered by East, and the.elder club won by an innings and 248 runs.
